Working together with the Swiss Audemat-Broadcast distributor, RED AUDIO PRO OFCOM--BAKOM & SSR-SRG decided to use GOLDENEAR software and the FM MC4 mobile RF field-strength measurement unit to map and verify spectrum usage. To test a particular frequency,  the OBB2 system carries out a mobile RF measurement campaign on the frequency and attributes a reception quality value to the measurement on a scale of 1 to 5, based on the CCIR norm.

A combination of three FM-MC4 master units are linked to three slave units in the minivan, enabling users to conduct this operation on three potential frequencies simultaneously.

The OBB2 solution validates potential frequencies and highlights problems associated with Multipath, co-channel interferences and RDS bit-rate errors. With OBB2 it is also possible to check the spacing between different frequencies, to assess bad-coverage zones and to visualize the detail of the multipath. Of course, given the setup of the OBB2 with three FM-MC4 Master and three slave units, it is possible to carry out this analysis on three programs from the same transmitter site. Such flexibility offers a clear vision of whether interference occurs on all programs from the same transmitter site.

Special developments concerning these issues were a high priority for OFCOM-BAKOM /SSR-SRG,  and Audemat-Broadcast broadened the scope of the Goldenear software to take these issues into consideration.
